Aitana Bonmat, a midfielder for Barcelona and Spain, has won the Ballon d'Or Féminin for her outstanding performance in 2018.
At 25 years old, Bonmatí played a pivotal role in guiding Barcelona to victory in Liga F and the Champions League last season. She then went on to lead Spain to World Cup triumph during the summer.
Bonmat succeeds colleague and two-time champion Alexia Putellas to become the third player from Barça to win the women's Ballon d'Or in a row.
"Spain possesses something truly unique. Over the past few years, we have achieved a great deal with both our club teams and the national side," Bonmatí conveyed to reporters.
In the absence of Putellas, Bonmatí, who secured fifth place in the 2022 Ballon d'Or, assumed a more prominent role in the attack for Barcelona. She scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in 23 appearances, contributing significantly to Barcelona's fourth consecutive Liga F victory.
She was particularly outstanding in the Champions League, where she helped Barça to a repeat championship with 13 goal contributions (five goals and eight assists) in 11 games.
Starting in 2016, Bonmat has helped Barça win four league titles, two Champions Leagues, five Copas de le Reina, and three Spanish Super Cups in his almost 200 games played for the club.
